Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation can reshape the upper and lower lip to give a more aesthetic or youthful appearance. Augmentation of the lips is accomplished using various materials that help “plump” the lips, creating fullness and decreasing vertical lines.

How is Lip Augmentation Performed?

The lip augmentation procedure will depend on the type of treatment you are interested in. Some of the most popular procedures include fillers, fat transfers and surgical lip implants.

Dermal fillers are generally made up of human-based collagen, bovine-based collagen or hyaluronic acid, and they are injected into your lips. The fat transfer procedure involves taking fat from another part of your body and injecting it into your lips. And surgical implants involve the insertion of a synthetic implant, usually around the corners of the mouth. Your doctor will discuss all these options with you, and will most likely show you some lip augmentation before and after pictures to help you determine which one is right for you.

Will I like my Lip Augmentation?

Typically we would recommend dermal fillers initially to determine the amount of augmentation desired. The disadvantage of dermal fillers is that they have to be re-injected over time because the effects tend to fade. However, this can be an advantage when someone wants to try augmentation but is unsure of the outcome or the amount of desired change. If the patient decides that more is desired, this can be added at any time.  Once the desired effect is achieved a longer lasting augmentation can be performed, thus giving the patient multiple options to achieve their desired look.
